Job summary

ShopRite of Neptune in Neptune, NJ is seeking a Meat Cutter Clerk to join the Meat Department. You will cut and trim meat, assist customers, and ensure product quality and presentation in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong English communication, physical stamina, and the ability to operate department equipment. The incumbent must maintain cleanliness, follow safety guidelines, and work a full schedule including possible overtime.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand English.
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Strong knowledge of safe food handling and safe work habits.
• Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 35 lbs., and occasionally lift 80-90 lbs.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures.
• Ability to work with fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices and powdered substances without negative allergic consequences.
• Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
• Ability to operate Meat Department equipment such as band saws, grinders, wrapping machines, power jacks, knives and cutters.
• Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
• Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment.
• Maintain sanitation control according to Company policy.
• Clean and sanitize all work surfaces, utensils and equipment in accordance with Department of Sanitation and QA standards.
• Keep floor clear of debris and spills.
• Work in an environment that includes refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas with humidity and occasional freezing conditions.
• Follow procedures for receiving, dating, preparing, storing, and price marking, restocking products and ensuring quality and rotation.
• Handle damaged and spoiled products per Company policy and assist in controlling damaged goods.
• Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance and report failures.
• Unload trucks and transport meat to the Department weighing 35 lbs and occasionally 80-90 lbs.
• Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise weighing 35 lbs and occasionally 80-90 lbs.
• Adhere to Company shrink guidelines related to Meat Department operations.
• Utilize and maintain equipment and report problems.
• Complete all department training programs.
• Check products against invoices and know item locations.
• Promote current charitable promotions to Customers.
• Stand at workstation for full shifts, potentially exceeding 8 hours.
• Cut and trim meat according to Company specifications and rotate products in cases.
• Remove outdated or damaged products, empty trash, and move merchandise with equipment.
• Perform duties in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
