Job summary

Halperns’ Steak & Seafood in Kalamazoo, MI is hiring a 1st Shift Meat Cutter (Bone in) to clean, cut, portion, and merchandise all meat products to meet customer specifications.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and good communication in English. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:00am start with finishing time. Starting wage is $20 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of production equipment.
• Ability to portion all boneless cuts accurately and timely.
• Ability to reduce processing costs while meeting customer specifications.
• Ability to problem solve in trimming and substitutions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Must understand Meat Buyer’s Guide specifications.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, trims, slices, and portions subprimals of beef, pork, lamb and veal for future processing.
• Inspects meat products for defects, bruises, or blemishes.
• Accurately reads and comprehends all customer specific instructions.
• Performs Quality Control checks and communicates with supervisors and managers regarding any defects.
• Separates meats and byproducts into specified containers and seals containers.
• Uses knives, cleavers, and other equipment to perform meat cutting and trimming.
• Weighs meats and tags containers for weight and contents.
• Follows the company's detailed product specifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Responsible for cleaning, cutting, portioning, and merchandising all boneless meat products.

Essential Functions

• Cleans, trims, slices, and portions subprimals of beef, pork, lamb and veal for future processing.
• Inspects meat products for defects, bruises, or blemishes.

• Ability to reduce processing costs but cutting and sizing portions accurately while continuing to meet customer specifications.
• Ability to problem solve in terms of trimming and product substitutions.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure, challenging environment.
• Must be a team player and possess a positive attitude.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, in English.
• Must demonstrate the ability to understand the Meat Buyer’s Guide specifications as they relate to the company’s internal product specifications.
