Job Summary

Job Title: Meat Cutter - Floater

FLSA Status: Hourly

Reports To: Meat Manager

The Meat Cutter - Floater will assist in all tasks within the Meat Department to provide exceptional products and services. This role involves working out of our Pulaski store three days a week and supporting Wittenberg and other stores in the area. The position ensures the department's positive earnings and operational standards set by Hometown Grocers, delivering high customer service by trimming and preparing meat cuts. Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to departmental success.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Presentations, Meat Cutting, Production, and Training

  • Travel to multiple stores to maintain department standards, including meat cutting, service counter work, filling cases, and training associates.
  • Assist Meat Manager in achieving business metrics, including product ordering, merchandising, productivity, and shrink control.
  • Meet quality standards, including quantity expectations at 100% by 10 am and 4 pm, assisting in case filling as needed.
  • Support department goals by assisting in other areas as requested.
  • Handle all non-case ready meat production such as cutting, trimming, grinding, wrapping, marinating, and sausage making.
  • Enhance sales through attention to detail and product presentation.
  • Minimize waste by following production plans, recipes, and trim standards.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and collaborate on par levels for meat cuts and backstock.
  • Assist in meat ordering and supplies management.
  • Train Utility team members in grinding, cutting, wrapping, labeling, and filling.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the department.
  • Maintain food safety and grind logs, perform yield tests, verify deliveries, and monitor product dates and markdowns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance and communicate absences timely.

Guest Service

  • Assist guests at the service counter, help find items, and answer questions about meat types, cuts, and preparations.
  • Handle special orders and requests promptly.
  • Use proper phone etiquette when answering calls.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the following requirements or reasonable accommodations will be considered:

  • WI Certified Food Manager License (reimbursed upon obtaining)
  • Ability to lead, coach, and motivate staff
  • Ensure thorough training for new and current staff
  • Effective communication with staff and management
  • Proficiency with technology and basic math
  • Knowledge of meat types, cuts, and safety procedures
  • Experience with meat processing equipment
  • Ability to interpret instructions and regulations
  • Must be over 18 and have at least 12 months of meat cutting experience
  • Dependable, flexible, and able to travel between locations
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift 50-80 pounds regularly
  • Perform repetitive arm and hand movements
  • Work in cold temperatures (40-50°F)
  • Travel between multiple locations

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-time, including mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays
  • Flexibility for evenings or overnight shifts as needed
  • Travel up to 50 miles from the home store
