Job summary

Corning Inc. is seeking a Measurements Engineering Intern to advance glass and ceramic manufacturing through design and deployment of measurement systems.

You will work with cameras, optical sensors, illumination, drones, and robots, developing computer vision and AI insights to enhance efficiency and quality. You will gain hands-on experience and present a final project, with housing/travel support and opportunities for networking and technical talks.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Engineering with ≥2 years completed.
• Available for 10 weeks Summer 2027 (May–Aug 2027).
• Graduation date Dec 2027 or later.
• Interested in Corning, Inc. after graduation.
• Be willing to work at the posted job location.
• Experience/interest with Imaging, Optics, Lasers, Sensors etc.
• Hands on experience with robotics and automation.
• Experience/interest with data acquisition hardware and software (PLC, LabVIEW, C#).
• Hands-on experience with computer vision and AI technologies.
• Hands on experience with any programming language.
• Software of note: Python, OpenCV, C#, MATLAB, Halcon.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement measurement systems for inspection, guidance, and identification in the manufacturing process of glass and ceramics.
• Build working prototypes on an optical table, choosing imaging/illumination platforms for measurement needs.
• Utilize current machine vision technologies across Corning businesses.
• Develop algorithms and software for data processing and machine learning.
• Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot measurement systems for optimal performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate measurement systems into manufacturing processes.
• Aid in training operators and maintenance staff to use measurement systems.
• Keep up to date with advancements in measurement technology.
• Help ensure safety regulations compliance and maintain system documentation.
• Work under a senior engineer to structure and deliver goals.
• Demonstrate ownership and problem solving.
• Present work to a diverse technical community within the company.
