Job summary

Corning Inc. in the United States is seeking a Vision System Intern for the Measurements and Controls Group within CET. You will help design, prototype, test, and deploy computer vision systems that improve manufacturing process efficiency and quality.

The internship includes hands-on work with cameras and sensors, collaboration with senior engineers, and opportunities to transition projects to pilot lines. Travel is 0–20%, and the program runs for ten weeks in Summer 2027.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Robotics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• 0-1 years of experience through coursework, labs, projects, or internships in robotics or automation.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or C# (strongly preferred).
• Understanding of image processing fundamentals, linear algebra, and 2D/3D geometry; experience with camera calibration.
• Basic understanding of robot kinematics, dynamics, and feedback control.
• Hands-on experience with hardware (cameras, sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Availability for a 10-week internship during Summer 2027, with an expected graduation date of December 2027 or later
• Interest in pursuing a full-time opportunity with Corning after graduation, if offered
• Willingness to work at the posted location

Responsibilities

• Contribute to engineering projects developing vision systems for inspection, defect detection, and measurement.
• Develop, train, and evaluate models for object detection, segmentation, using Halcon and deep learning frameworks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Set up and calibrate cameras and sensors for reliable data capture.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across hardware and software during development and deployment.
• Support on-floor trials, data collection, and performance assessments to drive iterative improvements.
• Document technical processes, system requirements, test plans, and project progress for internal stakeholders.
