Job summary

Community First Solutions is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join the meals on wheels program. You will assist with meal preparation, packing, and sanitation while following COA and partner policies.

The role requires lifting up to 40 pounds and strong customer service skills to support the 55+ population. You will work in a team to ensure safe, nutritious meals are prepared and delivered, with daily tasks including stocking, cleaning, and assisting with events.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Some work experience preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities: Must be able to follow instructions, read and understand general cooking terms.
  • Must have the ability to lift and maneuver up to 40 pounds and relate to needs of adult population.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all COA and Partners in Prime policies and service specifications for the Meals on Wheels program.
  • Ensure all kitchen functions meet health and safety regulations.
  • Pack food items daily for the meals on wheels program using kitchen appliances.
  • Pack items in accordance with stated serving portions.
  • Keep kitchen appliances and equipment clean and sanitary daily.
  • Prepare beverages as needed for daily use and events.
  • Clean and put away dishes, pots, pans, glasses, cups and utensils.
  • Restock kitchen items when needed.
  • Stock items in appropriate storage areas when delivered/purchased.
  • Document and inventory kitchen supplies as requested.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as directed by supervisor.
  • Occasionally drive and deliver meals during emergencies or staff shortages.
  • Promote a safe, positive work environment and professional community image.

Overview

The Kitchen Assistant works as part of a team to prepare, pack, and clean up all items needed maintain the operations of the meals on wheels program. This position operates within specific guidelines and refers questionable areas to their supervisor. This position provides safe and nutritious meals for Partners in Prime’s Meals on Wheels Program.

Responsibilities
  • Comply with all Council on Aging’s (COA) and Partners in Prime policies and service specifications in accordance with the Meals on Wheels (MOW) Program.
  • Ensure all kitchen functions are readied in compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Utilizing kitchen cooking appliances, pack food items each day for the meals on wheels program.
  • Properly pack food item in accordance with stated serving portions.
  • On a daily basis, clean kitchen appliances, dishwashers, trash holders, carts, trays and all other kitchen tables and equipment, etc. to ensure all items are clean and sanitary in, on and around each piece of equipment.
  • Prepare beverages as needed or requested for daily needs and other special events.
  • Clean and put away dishes, pots, pans, glasses, cups and utensils.
  • Restock kitchen items (cups, plates, etc.) when needed or requested.
  • Stock items in appropriate storage areas when delivered or purchased.
  • Properly document and inventory kitchen supplies when needed or requested.
  • Empty contents of boxes, tear down and discard boxes in the appropriate recycle or garbage containers.
  • Attend all training sessions and meetings as directed by your supervisor.
  • Occasionally drive and deliver meals to clients during emergency situations or during the absence of personnel or volunteers.
  • Participate in promoting and maintaining a safe and positive work environment.
  • Promote and present a positive image of Partners in Prime at all times, especially when conducting oneself within the community.
  • Successfully complete orientation and initial and on-going training sessions
  • All other duties as requested and appropriate for the positon.
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Licenses or other required certifications:

Experience: Some work experience preferred.

Specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities: Must be able to follow instructions, read and understand general cooking terms. Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 40 pounds (i.e.: 1 case of canned vegetables). Must have the ability to relate to needs of 55 or older population. Attend company and other conferences, seminars and training classes as directed by your supervisor. Commit to company values. Must have strong customer service and communication skills and be a strong team player.
