Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield invites you to join the User Experience team for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. You will collaborate across UX designers and engineers to design intuitive, accessible experiences while learning from leaders in health insurance tech.

You will support cross-functional projects, troubleshoot production issues, and build UI artifacts. The internship runs May 2027 with a hybrid schedule at the Des Moines headquarters and strong emphasis on practical, hands-on work.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or related field.
• Experience with software development technologies (Angular, NodeJS, TypeScript, C++, .NET, Java, SQL).
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent writing and communication skills for collaboration across teams.
• Ability to troubleshoot and develop creative technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide day to day collaboration with leaders and team members; focus on small scale deliverables.
• Assist with management and troubleshooting of multiple applications in support of Wellmark's systems.
• Collaborate with Technology and business stakeholders to troubleshoot and provide production support.
• Develop business knowledge of applications to support maintenance.
• Participate in development of complex UI artifacts used by multiple teams.
• Maintain documentation and code examples describing usage and best practices.
• Work with UX Designers, Engineers, and stakeholders to keep user experience integral from start to finish.
• Collaborate in a team environment with shared code and disciplined source control.
