Job summary

The State of Hawai‘i is seeking candidates for FULL PERFORMANCE level building construction inspection positions, located in Maui (Wailuku/Kahului). The roles involve inspecting materials and construction methods, recording progress, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.

Applicants should have two years of journey level experience in building trades, and at least one year in inspection or supervisory responsibilities. A valid driver's license and ability to lift may be required.

Qualifications

• Legal Authorization to Work in the United States as required by Hawaii state employment policies.
• Two years of journey level experience in building construction trades with knowledge of methods, materials, safety, and blueprint reading.
• One year of either building construction inspection experience or supervisory experience over skilled trades workers.
• Basic ability to read and understand instructions, perform arithmetic, and write simply and directly.
• Driver's license may be required for some positions; lifting/carrying may be required.
• Substitutions permitted as described in Minimum Qualification Requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect a broad range of construction operations, materials, and methods.
• Measure and evaluate construction materials and forms against specifications.
• Accept or reject concrete forms, equipment, and materials per plans.
• Maintain detailed records and prepare routine and monthly progress reports.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by a higher-level inspector.
