Position Overview
The matron is responsible for providing a safe and reliable Van service and transporting Individuals to and from the program. They will also perform program-related errands as requested. In addition, they will establish an effective rapport with Individuals and will be responsible for ensuring all passengers on the Van follow DBIS-mandated procedures.
Qualifications
- GED or equivalent
- Able to proficiently read, write and speak English

- An ability to communicate well with Individuals, staff, and parents

General Responsibilities
- Transport Individuals from home to program and from program to home
- Drop Individuals only at authorized stops
- Ensure to sit with the individuals to address outbursts or incidents
- Perform program-related errands
- Obey all traffic laws
- Be attentive to the traffic and weather conditions, stay on schedule and ensure the safety of passengers.
- Uphold a positive image of the Agency by applying excellent and safe habits
- Ensure that the Van travels with the Agency issued cellphone and that the phone is fully charged
- Ensure that all passengers have their seatbelts fastened before moving the Van, maintain rules of conduct, and respond to emergencies.
- Keep the assigned Van in a clean condition.
- Notify the Transport Manager if you are running late
- Notify the Transport Manager if there are any route deviations
- Transport only authorized Individuals
- Maintain discipline when Individuals are on the Van
- Report undisciplined Individuals to the Transport Manager
- Please keep track of the number of Individuals on the Van, and ensure that all Individuals are delivered safely to the program and back to their homes.
- Ensure the Individuals are assisted to board the un-board the Van
- Assist Individuals at all times to cross the road for the board and drop off.
- No music is permitted to be played while Individuals are in the Van.
- Report minor and major accidents and complete required reports
- Follow DBIS Camera protocol at all times
- Other duties as may be assigned
Communication
- Inform parents and supervisors of any/all route delays
- Inform parents and supervisors of all behavioral/medical and sensitive incidents
- Safeguard and respect the confidentiality of the individuals and their families
- Communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s) when the Van is running late or if an incident occurs with their child.
- Inform parent and supervisor if the individual is injured on the Van
