Job summary

Essex County College in Newark, NJ seeks a Math Tutor to support MTH 0905/100, assisting students in-class and outside of class to improve overall performance. Works under supervision of the Chairperson of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences.

The role offers an hourly rate of $18.00 and requires ECC students or recent graduates in STEM with strong math skills, plus a year of tutoring or teaching assistant experience; strong communication and intercultural abilities are

Responsibilities

• Attend all class sessions held in the lab in order to support students while they are completing individual class work and/or small group work assigned by the professor.
• Be available in class to provide one-on-one assistance to any student who needs supplemental help during the professor’s lecture.
• Be available outside-of-class for an additional scheduled number of hours each week to tutor students either in a one-on-one or small group format.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Under the supervision of the Chairperson of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences or designee, the Math Tutor will assist the MTH 0905/100 professor by providing both in-class and outside-of-class support to students in order to improve overall class academic performance.

Compensation: This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.00 per hour.

Supervisory Role

Oral and written instructions are received from the Chairperson of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences or designee.
