Essex County College in Newark seeks a dedicated tutor to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will teach writing for independent living, craft authentic lesson plans, and develop assessments to measure progress.

The role involves using multimedia tools, maintaining student records with confidentiality, and preparing routine reports while assisting advisors and office staff as needed.

Formación

• Ability to tutor students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsabilidades

• Teach writing skills needed for independent living to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities through individualized sessions, group workshops, and/or tutorial sessions.
• Create authentic lesson plans using real-life scenarios.
• Create assessments to measure student skills pre- and post-tutoring sessions.
• Engage students in creative ways to increase their skills.
• Utilize multimedia tools.
• Assess each student’s needs and develop an individualized tutoring plan to meet each student’s needs.
• Document student participation in tutoring and their progress.
• Establish and maintain an accurate filing system and a typed guide to office files and their location.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and security of student and staff records.
• Prepare routine, special, and ancillary reports as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• C. Cross-training to help students in the absence of other tutors
• D. Maintaining the work area in a professional manner.

Compensation: This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.00 per hour.

Supervisory Role
