Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a Math Tutor to support student-athletes enrolled in MATH, STAT, PHYS, CSCI, or related courses. This role provides one-on-one or small group tutoring on campus in Athens.

Responsibilities include preparing sessions, maintaining logs, reviewing topics beforehand, ensuring NCAA compliance, and coordinating with the Math Lab Coordinator and academic counselors for scheduling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Education or related field.
• At least 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience.
• Familiarity with current technologies used to teach math, including computer programs and graphing calculators.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Tutor student(s) and aid in their understanding of the material covered in their courses.
• Maintain a record of what occurred in each tutoring session, including topics covered, student progress, time spent, and student’s level of preparedness for tutoring.
• Review course topics ahead of sessions to be prepared to utilize time scheduled with student(s).
• Ensure compliance with NCAA, SEC, and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to the area of academic assistance.
• Communicate changes in schedule or needs of individual students with Math Lab Coordinator and academic counselors.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Education or a related field.
• At least 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience.
• Familiarity with current technologies used to teach math, including computer programs and graphing calculators.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, customers and the general public.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with random issues.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and occasionally lift approximately 20 lbs.
