Job description

Math, Physics, or Computer Tutor – Learning Center (Bethlehem or Online)

Part‑time position (~10 to 25 hours per week). Math tutors assist students in Pre‑Algebra through Calculus I and above. Computer tutors help students with C++ programming and/or intermediate MS Office skills. Tutors may work with students individually or in small groups on campus or online.

Responsibilities

• Support student success by using a personalized approach to deepen understanding of course material.
• Develop effective learning strategies and promote critical thinking.
• Engage students through individualized or group instruction.
• Provide CRLA training, obtaining certification within one year of employment.
• Participate in staff meetings, ongoing professional development, and promptly respond to learning center staff communication.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of math disciplines (for math tutors); proficiency in C++ programming (for computer tutors).
• Ability to tutor introductory Statistics, Physics, and MS Office is advantageous.
• Knowledge of HTML, basic networking, microcomputer OS, and data structure is a plus for computer tutors.
• Associate degree or higher in the discipline or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Grade of B or higher in all courses in the intended tutoring area.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical skills, interest in working with a diverse student population, patience, and genuine desire to help students learn.
• Previous experience as a peer or professional tutor is a plus but not required.
