Job summary

Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks a Math Instructional Assistant to provide individual and small-group tutoring for students in math courses within the Learning Resources Center. You will assist with resources and instructional materials to support current VPCC students.

The role is part-time, with a Monday–Friday 8 am–6 pm schedule and potential for occasional evening or weekend hours. Familiarity with Canvas or Blackboard is preferred.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutoring experience at the high school or two-year college level.
• Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical principles in working with adult learners and underserved populations.
• Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students who encounter math-related problems in VPCC courses.
• Supports the Learning Resources Center work toward student success and retention.
• Works with faculty to reinforce math concepts and study strategies.

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through a comprehensive, readily accessible collection of VPCC curriculum related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students who encounter math-related problems in their VPCC courses.

This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Knowledge

• Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics) necessary for success in associates degrees and certificate level career and technical programs and courses.
• Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases, and electronic communications.
• Proficiency with graphing calculators.
