JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Math Center Supervisor oversees the day-to-day activities and employees of on-campus Math Centers. This position schedules Math Center staff, collaborates regularly with Math faculty and other Academic Support Supervisors to ensure the smooth operation of Math Centers and alignment with other Academic Support Services. The Supervisor provides instructional assistance to students in all levels of math offered at the college and communicates with departments throughout the college to address math-related needs across the curriculum.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the center.
  • Supervises assigned staff and their work schedules.
  • Provides math support to students, faculty, and staff during assigned hours, assisting with all math from developmental levels through calculus as well as with mathematical components of courses across the curriculum.
  • Collaborates with math department faculty and departments across the college to understand existing and emerging mathematical challenges experienced by MCC students.
  • Works with faculty and other Academic Support & Libraries leaders to design and implement creative interventions to support the development of math skills.
  • Participates in college-wide initiatives in support of student learning and retention.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, and training Math Center Associates and Peer Math Tutors.
  • Maintains accurate center records and reports on center effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Proactively engages with academic support scholarship and best practices in the math assistance field.
  • Promotes the Math Center and other Academic Support & Libraries services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Monday - Friday, 40 scheduled hours, may range between 8am - 7pm based on student needs.
On-premise position mainly located on the Fort Omaha Campus, with some travel expected to South Omaha Campus and Elkhorn Valley Campus based on position needs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of all levels of math taught at Metropolitan Community College.
  • Knowledge of learning assistance techniques.
  • Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other college supported systems.
  • Excellent communication skills including active listening.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-orientated environment.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and understanding in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work well independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience such as teaching, tutoring, or training diverse adult learners.
  • At least one year of college Math Center experience.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, and training others in a team environment strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
  • Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities.
  • Must pass background check.
