Classification Regular Minimum Pay $22.70

Compensation will be commensurate with the level of the position, education, and experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Facilitates Math Center activities and interface with math faculty to assess students’ learning needs; assist students with required Math coursework; provide instructional assistance as needed in math; support faculty, staff and students in the use of microcomputers and computer aided instruction; maintain computer hardware and software. We are seeking a professional who possesses college-level tutoring experience who is adaptable to the variety of learning styles students may have and can be flexible with their approach to meet the needs of our students.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
  • Provides leadership for the Math Center.
  • Provides informal academic assistance to students in coursework related to the skills of mathematics and applications as related to other subjects.
  • Assists students, faculty and staff in using college software programs and computer-aided instruction.
  • Conducts workshops in math skills, study strategies and in the use of computer software and learning technologies.
  • Assists students in recognizing, developing and applying appropriate study/learning strategies and skills.
  • Promotes LSS services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff and students.
  • Checks and schedules maintenance of computer stations and software applications.
  • Consistently and dependably attends work, activities and functions as scheduled or assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Monday - Friday, 40 hours between 8am-6pm On-premise position located at the Elkhorn Valley Campus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics through Calculus level.
  • Knowledge of statistics preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of learning assistance techniques and study skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
  • Ability to learn and understand a wide variety of software, hardware and network equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and exercise tact, diplomacy and sound judgment in stressful situations, showing area-wide leadership.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals with diverse social and academic backgrounds, learning styles and capabilities.
  • Ability to promote and maintain initiative and acceptance of responsibility.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and understanding in stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, walk, push, lift, and reach.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Math, Education, or related field.
  • One (1) year of job-related work experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or job-related work experience considered.
  • Must pass background check.
