Job summary

Breakthrough New York is seeking an After School Instructor to work with our Program Manager, fellow instructors, tutors, and students to deliver Algebra-focused math programming at our Middle School sites in New York City during the Spring 2027 term.

The position is seasonal and part-time, with programming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and kick-off training and ongoing check-ins to support professional development and program quality.

Qualifications

• Can demonstrate experience and results with similar responsibilities
• Is passionate about forming relationships with middle school students, while acting as a role model at all times
• Is a current college student and/or is 18 or older
• Can commit to the entire Spring 2027 Term (January 27th - April 21st)
• Is confident with Zoom, Google Drive, and comfortable learning new systems
• Demonstrates excellence in BTNY's Core Values

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-written Math (Algebra) curriculum twice weekly to middle school students.
• Supporting with logistical aspects of the program and filling in when needed
• Learn and practice student management techniques and communicate with your Program Manager about student needs.
• Participating in weekly check-ins with your Program Manager for professional development and mid-semester/end-of-semester evaluations
• Evaluating student output and tracking student performance
• Complete training and observation sessions
• Other duties based on the BTNY site which you are assigned
