Job summary

Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Laboratory Technician to support materials testing for aerospace and defense applications. You will set up equipment, run tests of tensile, metallography, corrosion, and other analyses, and maintain test records.

This is an in-person, full-time role with daylight and expanding evening, night, and weekend shifts. No prior experience is required as training is provided on-the-job; candidates with a high school diploma or GED

Qualifications

• Citizenship: US Citizenship is strictly required for national defense and aerospace compliance.
• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Technical Aptitude: Mechanically inclined individuals are highly preferred. Experience with blueprints or technical drawings is a plus.
• Core Competencies: Attention to detail, time management, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
• Teamwork: Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, or moving around lab floor for prolonged periods.
• Mindset: No prior experience is necessary; we provide on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Setup: Set up and calibrate laboratory instrumentation required for testing and process control.
• Materials Testing: Perform customized tests to determine material strength, stability, purity, and chemical characteristics.
• Lab Environments: Work with Tensile Testing, Metallography, Stress & Creep Testing, Composite Testing, Fracture Analysis, and Corrosion Testing.
• Tool Operation: Safely operate laboratory prep tools including band saws, grinders, sanders, polishers, and mounting machinery.
• Documentation: Maintain meticulous digital and physical records of test results to catch potential reliability issues.
• Lab Maintenance: Organize, clean, and maintain the testing laboratory environment.
