Job summary

Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research, Inc. in Youngstown, PA is seeking a hands-on technical specialist to perform specialized destructive tests on aerospace and industrial materials.

You will set up equipment, run tests for strength, durability, and chemical characteristics, and document results with meticulous records. No prior experience is required; comprehensive on‑the‑job training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalence.
• US Citizenship is strictly required for national defense and aerospace compliance.
• Mechanically inclined; good with blueprints or technical drawings a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, organization, and multitasking.
• Able to work independently and in a team; willingness to learn with on‑the‑job training.

Responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate laboratory instrumentation for specialized testing and process control.
• Perform tests to determine material strength, stability, purity, and chemical characteristics.
• Gain hands-on exposure to tensile, metallography, stress & creep, composite, fracture, and corrosion testing.
• Safely operate lab prep tools including band saws, grinders, sanders, polishers, and mounting machinery.
• Maintain meticulous digital and physical records of test results.
• Organize, clean, and maintain the testing laboratory environment.
