Construction Materials Field Technician
Position Summary
The Construction Materials Field Technician performs field and laboratory testing, sampling, inspection, and observation of construction materials to help ensure projects meet applicable specifications, standards, and quality requirements.
The position works at construction sites and may support laboratory operations while working under the direction of experienced technicians, engineers, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform field observations, inspections, sampling, and testing of construction materials, including soils, aggregates, concrete, and related materials.
- Conduct routine field and laboratory tests using established procedures, testing equipment, and applicable industry standards.
- Collect, document, and record accurate test results and field observations.
- Perform basic calculations and data reduction based on sampling and test results.
- Identify and communicate changing site conditions, testing requirements, and potential issues to supervisors or project managers.
- Interact professionally with contractors, construction personnel, technicians, engineers, and project managers.
- Follow established safety procedures and comply with applicable construction and testing standards.
- Maintain, organize, and inspect field testing equipment and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment.
- Complete required documentation, reports, forms, and other administrative tasks associated with field testing activities.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate project status and field conditions as required.
- Develop knowledge of construction materials testing principles, procedures, specifications, and industry standards.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work outdoors at active construction sites in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry testing equipment and materials, potentially weighing 85 pounds or more.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record information.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, coworkers, supervisors, and project managers.
- Willingness to learn construction practices, materials testing procedures, and applicable industry standards.
- Previous construction, manufacturing, laboratory, quality control, equipment operation, or technical experience is helpful but may not be required.
Physical & Work Environment
The position requires regular work at active construction sites and may involve standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying equipment, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Employees must follow site-specific safety requirements and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
