Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Construction Materials Technician to inspect contractor work at various construction sites and perform basic field soil and concrete tests under supervision. You will input data via mobile devices for rapid transmission to Project Managers.

The role requires field testing of soils, asphalt, masonry, and concrete, plus preparing reports and coordinating with clients and engineers on site conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior construction or field testing experience preferred.
  • Certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry are a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams to achieve goals.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate in inspections and paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field materials testing of soil, asphalt, masonry, and concrete.
  • Prepare detailed field reports with test results and observations.
  • Perform laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare results reports.
  • Evaluate site and subgrade conditions and provide recommendations.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and engineering staff regarding construction issues.

Job description

As a Construction Materials Technician, you will help ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests under the direction of other technicians or engineering professionals to verify the work is performed by project specifications. With minimal paperwork involved, all inspections/observations and test data are input on smartphones/tablets in the field for immediate transmittal to our Project Managers for review.

  • sCommunicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issue
sRequirements
  • :A High School Diploma (or equivalent
  • )Prior construction or field testing experience preferre
  • dACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry are a plu
  • sAbility to multi-task and meet deadline
  • sMust be able to work independently and within teams to achieve goal

  • dAbility to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual

  • eAbility to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field, and perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipmen
