Johnson Controls, Inc. seeks a Materials Supervisor at the Silent-Aire USA Manufacturing Facility in Gilbert, AZ. You will lead a team of 10-20 material handlers, ensuring material flow, safety, and adherence to 5S standards to support production.

You will drive OTD performance, manage inbound/outbound material movements, and collaborate with Planning, Purchasing, Production, and Logistics to maintain continuity and inventory accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing materials, logistics, warehousing, or inventory management.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory leadership experience.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Sage, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Experience with 5S and lean practices
  • Strong understanding of inventory control principles and warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Champion safety-first culture through daily coaching, hazard identification, and proactive risk elimination.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety policies, PPE, certifications, and handling procedures.
  • Maintain 5S practices and safe equipment operation.
  • Complete scheduled Layered Safety Audits and Coaching Moments.
  • Ensure compliance with forklift certification requirements and safe material handling procedures.
  • Communicate daily safety messages and expectations during pre-shift meetings.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Material Handlers, Warehouse Associates, Forklift Operators, Inventory Control Specialists, and Team Leads.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials to production lines to support schedules.
  • Coordinate inbound receiving, put-away, replenishment, kitting, and outbound shipping.
  • Monitor shortages, expedite critical materials, and elevate supply risks.
  • Drive On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance through material availability management.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy targets through cycle counts, audits, and transaction discipline.

What you will do

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for leading material handling functions within warehouse or manufacturing plant with a strong focus on safety, inventory accuracy, 5S organization, and team accountability. This role ensures materials flow efficiently to production, shipping and receiving processes are executed with precision, and the material handlers operate with discipline, urgency, and ownership. The Materials Supervisor builds a culture where safety is non‑negotiable, standards are followed consistently, and results are delivered every day. Manage a team of 10-20 material handlers. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Champion safetyfirst culture through daily coaching, hazard identification, and proactive risk elimination.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety policies, PPE requirements, equipment certifications, and material‑handling procedures.

  • Maintain clear walkways, proper storage, and safe equipment operation through disciplined 5S practices.

  • Complete scheduled Layered Safety Audits (LSAs), Hazard Identification submissions, and Coaching Moments.

  • Ensure compliance with forklift certification requirements and safe material handling procedures.

  • Communicate daily safety messages and expectations during pre-shift meetings.

  • Hold the team accountable for safe behaviors and immediate correction of unsafe conditions.

  • Ensure timely delivery of materials to production lines to support manufacturing schedules and customer commitments.

  • Coordinate inbound receiving, put‑away, replenishment, kitting, and outbound shipping activities.

  • Monitor shortages, expedite critical materials, and proactively elevate supply risks.

  • Collaborate with Planning, Purchasing, Production, and Logistics teams to maintain production continuity.

  • Drive On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance through effective material availability management.

  • Own the accuracy of material counts & locations (Plant for Every Part) including raw materials & WIP.

  • Maintain inventory accuracy targets through cycle counts, audits, and transaction discipline.

  • Ensure all material movements are accurately recorded within ERP/WMS systems.

  • Lead investigation and resolution of inventory discrepancies.

  • Monitor inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.

  • Support physical inventories and annual inventory audits.

  • Drive adherence to FIFO practices and inventory control standards.

  • Partner with Planning, Production, and Quality to resolve discrepancies quickly and prevent recurrence.

  • Drive 5S excellence across material handlers: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain.

  • Maintain visual standards for racks, bins, aisles, staging areas, and dock operations.

  • Ensure materials are stored logically, safely, and aligned with production flow requirements.

  • Set clear daily priorities and ensure consistent execution through structured communication and follow‑up.

  • Lead, coach, and develop Material Handlers, Warehouse Associates, Forklift Operators, Inventory Control Specialists, and Team Leads.

  • Conduct regular employee performance discussions and provide timely feedback.

  • Ensure effective onboarding and training of all new team members.

  • Develop cross-training plans to improve flexibility and departmental performance.

  • Promote employee engagement through recognition, coaching, and development opportunities.

  • Ensure adherence to company attendance and conduct policies.

  • Support recruitment, hiring, and succession planning initiatives.

  • Communicate shortages, delays, and risks proactively with clear, fact‑based updates.

  • Support production readiness through accurate kitting, timely replenishment, and disciplined material handling.

  • Use data to drive decisions, identify trends, conduct problem solving and implement corrective actions

What we look for
Required:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing materials, logistics, warehousing, or inventory management.

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory leadership experience.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Sage, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).

  • Excellent communication, problem solving (including 8D, 5-Why and A3 problem solving methodology), and organizational skills

  • Experience with 5S and lean practices

  • Strong understanding of inventory control principles and warehouse operations.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred:
  • Associate's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working in SAGE ERP system

  • Forklift and material-handling equipment certification preferred

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish)

Reports to:

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $68,000- $93,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
