Job description

Primary Focus

The Materials Manager will be responsible for the direct management and handling of all raw and finished goods inventory and all warehousing functions. He or she will be accountable for all physical materials, ensuring staff adherence to legislative, safety, and organizational policies and procedures. The Materials Manager will accomplish effective inventory oversight through strong leadership and decision‑making skills, managing a staff of 5 supervisors with 50 total reports and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure safety is a priority with all workers and strict adherence to OSHA guidelines.
  • Accurately count raw material inventory and maintain records.
  • Ensure all inventory and material movement processes are adhered to and that materials are moved in a timely and accurate fashion within the manufacturing facility and warehouse.
  • Supervise a team of employees, including hiring decisions, delegation, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Manage parts shipping and receiving and all inter‑company transactions.
  • Lead and execute quarterly and annual inventory counts along with reconciliations.
  • Train staff in job duties, safety procedures, and company policy.
  • Maintain strict control over inventory levels to meet internal and external demand of product.
  • Plan warehouse layout and space requirements to prevent loss or damage and to achieve full optimization.
  • Maintain complete documentation regarding regulated products and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct periodic spot‑checks of inventory levels, supplies, or equipment.
  • Ensure all materials are in the workstation before they are needed.
  • Arrange purchase of moving equipment such as trailers, forklifts, crash pads, dollies, and related items.
  • Identify discrepancies between inventory records and take corrective action.
  • Implement and monitor performance metrics for receiving and inventory.
  • Manage time and attendance system.
  • Promote employee development through effective verbal and written communication, cross‑training, and solicitation of feedback on problem solving and continuous improvements.
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality of work.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership, team‑building, and the ability to supervise and motivate effectively.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Contacts

Internal communication is primarily with the management team, production, subordinates, and front office staff. External contacts may include suppliers of transportation and warehousing goods and services.

Working Conditions

This position requires shop work. The environment presents naturally occurring and potentially worker‑produced hazards. Safety policies must be adhered to at all times, and appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, hard‑toed safety shoes or boots) must be worn where required.

Qualifications
  • College/University degree or diploma in business, with a focus on supply chain or operations management preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in an inventory and/or warehousing setting.
  • Analytical problem‑solver with good communication skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills.
  • Team leadership and teambuilding abilities.
  • Excellent conflict‑resolution skills, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Persuasive, motivational, and persistent.
  • Excellent planning and resource allocation skills.
  • Direct working knowledge of operations, warehouse management, and transportation management.
  • Familiar with enterprise‑level track‑and‑trace systems, as well as implementation experience.
  • Experience with radio frequency ID systems (RFID), bar code systems, and electronic data interchange (EDI) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with all safe practices, procedures, and overall processes associated with manufacturing from raw materials to finished product.

Reports to: Director of Operations.

Compensation

Hirng Salary Range: $112,000 – $168,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
