Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Tampa, FL is seeking an Associate Project Consultant to join the EMI group. You will perform structural and materials engineering analyses, assist in on-site investigations, develop drawings and specifications, and support senior staff through project phases.

The role emphasizes materials science, structural engineering, and performance evaluation of diverse structures, with opportunities for professional growth and PE certification within five years.

Qualifications

  • Education must have an emphasis on materials science, material engineering, structural engineering, or engineering mechanics.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in civil, structural, or materials engineering.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) registration within five years.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients.
  • Ability to travel and perform field inspections of structures under supervision.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Preferred - MS or greater in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Structural Engineering, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in selecting materials for structural, mechanical, and building applications.
  • Conduct failure analysis of metals, concrete, polymers, composites, and other structural materials.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Prepare and present reports and presentations to clients.
  • Manage and conduct laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
