Job summary

Philips in New Kensington, PA is seeking a Material Scientist to join our Sleep & Respiratory Care R&D team. You will apply chemistry, materials science, and compliance knowledge to ensure product safety and drive world-class designs for our customers.

You will conduct tests, develop plans, perform material assessments, and collaborate across functions. Travel up to 10% may be required, and prior experience with polymer materials and ISO 10993 is preferred.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and analysis of chemical and physical properties of materials for use in medical devices (strongly preferred).
• Strong root cause analysis experience and the ability to perform failure mode investigations to support the CAPA process.
• An understanding of ISO 10993 standards for materials analysis and risk assessments, with knowledge of FDA, EU MDR and global medical device regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review requirements and develop test plans that provide key design and development insights and demonstrate material safety; execute this testing.
• Perform materials assessments and manage testing needed for product development and design changes including long-term aging studies.
• Communicate and coordinate testing needs with internal and external testing facilities.
• Assess material failures and coordinate corrective actions with project teams.
• Scout and select new polymer materials & processing technologies for Philips S RC products.
• Adhere to internal quality manuals and procedures.
• Report to the Materials Manager and collaborate with R&D, NPI, CROs, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
• Travel up to 10%.
