Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks a Quality Engineer Intern to support materials engineering activities for Formula 1 power unit components.

You will work hands-on with state-of-the-art analytical equipment and laboratory facilities, collaborating with experienced engineers to ensure components meet specifications and FIA regulations. This internship offers practical experience in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Interest in materials engineering, processes, testing, and properties.
• Basic familiarity with CAD software and data analysis tools.
• Coursework in materials science and engineering.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist day-to-day quality operations and special projects.
• Use lab instruments (optical and SEM, chemical analysis, mechanical testing) to characterize materials.
• Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for root cause investigations.
• Help maintain the materials lab and calibration of equipment.
• Support creation of material and process specifications and lab procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to learn quality processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
