Job summary

The Division of Transportation Solutions (State of Delaware) is seeking an Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician I/II to perform quality assurance testing on materials used in state and federally funded contracts. This role involves sampling and testing soils and aggregates, hot-mix asphalt, and in-place materials across project sites, with emphasis on math and data analysis.

Candidates may lift up to 50 lbs, work in inclement weather, and be prepared for overtime.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of algebra and geometry.
• Knowledge of construction materials, laboratory testing, or field-testing.
• Knowledge of automated information systems to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve and report data.
• Knowledge of developing and interpreting analytical documents such as reports, maps, or geographical representations of data.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, codes and maintenance requirements; documents compliance or deficiencies.
• Designs, develops, or reviews engineering project layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and related activities.
• Records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data and other information to document compliance or develop designs and reports.
• Conducts data analyses to determine accuracy of data and to develop recommendations.
• Tests or evaluates the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications.
• Operates surveying and CAD tools and uses software to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve and report data.
