Job summary

AM General LLC is seeking a production/Materials supervisor to help run manufacturing operations in Mishawaka, Indiana. The role focuses on optimizing material flow, reducing downtime, and leading a team of hourly workers in a high-demand environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating shortages, improving metrics, and guiding lean initiatives while ensuring safe, efficient production lines and timely planning communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required; 2–5 years of production management or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of general experience and 3–5 years of supervisory experience.
• Moderate organizational skills, knowledge of MS Office Products, and a high level of initiative.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Strong problem solving, leadership, and supervisory skills.
• Ability to motivate hourly employees to stay on assigned tasks.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
• Ability to oversee long term projects to successful completion.

Responsibilities

• Work as a team member whose main focus is to continually improve departmental metrics.
• Supervise the activities of indirect material handling hourly employees in the performance of their jobs.
• Monitor potential and current “hot” shortages and take action to eliminate downtime caused by these shortages.
• Communicate with planners and other supervisors to ensure material is located in our facility when required for use.
• Ensure the line counts and reporting of shortages are accurate and timely.
• Organize container management.
• Monitor future build requirements and ensure that material is moved to the production line in a timely manner.
• Train hourly employees and determine if they have the skills to successfully qualify for open material positions.
• Determine demand for materials and make decisions on storage locations.
• Lead 6’s lean initiatives.
• Provide key material handling tracking Metrics.
• Lead daily shift huddle meeting and group leader meetings.
• Assist in the daily operation of materials scanners.
• Completion of special projects as assigned.
