Job summary

Reading Truck is seeking a Materials Manager to direct the activities of shipping and material handling supervisors and team members, providing leadership toward departmental metrics and guiding root cause analyses.

You will partner with Safety, Production Scheduling, Operations, Engineering and Quality to create a safe, productive environment and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, lead-time and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years’ experience in a production or manufacturing environment, preferably in a sheet metal, welding, or metal fabrication environment
• Knowledge and demonstrated lean transformation(s) of work areas
• Experience with pull system for fabricated parts

Responsibilities

• Continually monitor safety issues and propose solutions to eliminate potential hazards
• Hold Team Members accountable for the safe operations of equipment
• Communicate with planners and other managers to ensure material is available when required for use
• Ensure proper management of supermarket and reorder process
• Manage the activities of salary supervisors and indirect material handling hourly employees in the performance of their jobs and drive employees to achieve department goals Investigate and resolve material flow movement issues, inventory accuracy, and material storage issues
• Monitor potential and current “hot” shortages and take action to eliminate downtime caused by these shortages
• Manage cross-training matrices and assignments to ensure every job function or task is adequately covered by more than one associate, and to give employees the opportunity to expand their skills
• Work with other associates, supervisors, and departments to drive continuous improvement activity to improve safety, quality, lead-time, on-time delivery, inventory, and labor productivity
• Complete required reports, such as safety, attendance, quality, efficiency, etc. Complete performance reviews on direct reports and provide input to other supervisors and managers regarding associates throughout the organization

How You Will Make an Impact

The Material Manager is responsible for directing the activities of shipping and material handling supervisors and Team Members in the performance of their duties, providing direction and leadership toward the attainment of departmental metrics. The Materials Manager will lead the team in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions. Materials Manager will work closely with Safety, Production Scheduling, Operations Managers, Engineering, Quality and other departments within the organization to provide a safe and productive work environment.
