Job summary

Mount Pleasant Waterworks in Mount Pleasant, SC, is seeking a Warehouse Inventory Clerk to receive and stock materials, track vendor information, and ensure stock data matches physical counts. You will assist with contract bids and inventory purchases while maintaining accurate records in the inventory system.

The position supports cycle counts, yearly physical inventories, and the upkeep of SDS sheets. Forklift operation and basic MS Office skills are preferred; training is provided.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma supplemented by 1 year of experience in warehouse operations, purchasing or inventory control.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dock levelers and related tools.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods; comfortable with lifting and moving materials.
  • Forklift Operator license within a reasonable amount of time.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and stocks incoming materials and tracks vendor information.
  • Monitors stock levels and replenishes to meet demand.
  • Assists with purchase orders and invoicing using the purchasing system.
  • Performs periodic cycle counts and coordinates yearly physical inventory.
  • Maintains SDS sheets and supports procurement activities and apparel logistics.
  • Coordinates with various departments and communicates clearly regarding inventory status.

Job description

  • Receives and stocks incoming materials, tracks vendor/supplier information, downloads stock transactions to inventory software system and ensures that all information is up to date and accurate in relation to physical counts of inventory and descriptions of current parts in stock.
  • Initiates bid/proposal requests for non-contract items and facilitates purchases of inventory under contract.
  • Assists with the annual warehouse materials bid for contract items.
  • Maintains cleanliness of warehouse to include sweeping, dusting shelves, and removing trash.
  • Monitors and adjusts reorder quantities and stock levels to meet the demand of the Commission and its infrastructure.
  • Inspects and schedules preventive maintenance on forklift and other material handling equipment to ensure that they are in good working order and safe to operate.
  • Maintains the SDS sheets for inventory items.
  • Assists with ordering materials and supplies for warehouse and ensures all materials meet MPW specifications; orders non-stock supplies as required for all utility departments and maintains an inventory commodity catalog.
  • Processes invoices and packing slips with accuracy and forwards to Accounting Department.
  • Performs periodic cycle counts of inventory items to ensure proper levels are maintained and coordinates/performs a yearly physical inventory count.
  • Assists with outside service to provide uniform apparel for field personnel.
  • Converts all properly approved requisitions into purchase orders using the purchasing software system.
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including purchase orders, packing slips, bills of laden, billing invoices, monthly tool report, vendor quotes, telephone calls/messages, and requisitions created in Financial Information System.
  • Refers to South Carolina Emergency Preparedness Manual, Disaster Assistance Manual, purchasing manual, engineering specifications manual, part manuals, vendor catalogs, pump manuals, computer software manuals, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups/individuals such as Chief Financial Officer, Budget & Procurement Supervisor, Accounting Supervisor, Financial Specialists, department supervisors, employees and the general public.
  • Picks up emergency materials from outside vendors and delivers to users on an as needed basis.
  • Assists with the resale of scrap materials.

Minimum Training And Experience
  • Requires a high school diploma supplemented by (1) year of experience in warehouse operations, purchasing or inventory control; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Position requires the ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dock levelers, movable stairways, etc. along with the use of drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, computer software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CMMS/FIS, Microsoft Outlook, etc.
  • Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting, walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, pushing/pulling and lifting/carrying weights of up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to obtain Forklift Operators License within a reasonable amount of time.
