The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Material Handler for the Environmental Management Service in Manchester, NH. The Material Handler is required to drive a truck for extended periods to reach remote service locations. The incumbent must stand on hard surfaces for long durations, bend, climb, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items moved using handling equipment or assistance. The role involves moving supplies with pallet jacks, forklifts, and physical labor. During travel, physical effort may be needed for changing tires and limited emergency repairs. The duties demand dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration.
The Material Handler operates motor vehicles in various traffic and weather conditions, exposed to the risk of accidents. The work environment includes both outdoor and indoor areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lit. The role involves exposure to potential cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls, and injuries from falling stock or mechanized areas. Protective gear such as gloves, support belts, and steel-toe shoes will be provided and must be used. The incumbent must be able to sit for long periods while driving and adhere to safety practices, reporting unsafe conditions or incidents promptly. The role also involves handling sensitive data, which must be protected per applicable laws and policies, including the Privacy Act of 1974 and VA regulations.
Applicants will be rated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. The job element method will be used to compare your knowledge, skills, and abilities against those required for success. Candidates meeting the screen-out element (WG-2 and higher) will be considered further.
