Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Materials Engineer to ensure materials used in design, analysis, and prototyping for new nuclear systems are compatible and acceptable. On-site in Lynchburg, VA, the role focuses on materials selection, testing, and documentation within the Advanced Technologies Office.

You will perform materials characterization, failure analysis, and work with design and manufacturing to resolve material issues, including additive manufacturing. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or similar) or physics.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a metallurgical/materials/manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Additive manufacturing experience.
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform materials engineering duties in support of procurement, fabrication, joining and testing of raw material commodities.
  • Provide material solutions in support of design and manufacturing of components.
  • Oversee material characterization activities.
  • Conduct failure analysis and identify failure modes of materials.
  • Prepare material performance specifications and evaluations for additive manufacturing applications.
  • Communicate material concepts across the organization and with customers.
  • Support weld development activities related to materials issues.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing to resolve materials joining, machining and processing issues.
