Job summary

Southern Company Gas is seeking a Materials Engineer to drive material quality management through testing, trials, and data collection. You will write specifications for new materials and oversee QA inspections and reporting of in-service material failures.

You will evaluate new technologies and support rollout plans for equipment and materials. The role requires evaluating standards compliance (ASTM/API/ANSI), conducting root-cause analyses, and coordinating with suppliers and labs.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in engineering required.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• 2+ years of engineering or operations experience in gas utility, pipeline transmission, or energy-related field for Engineer II.
• 5+ years for Engineer III; experience in materials testing and project management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new materials for compliance with ASTM/API/ANSI and 49CFR192.7.
• Oversee sampling inspections and material quality assurance.
• Develop material specifications attached to purchase orders.
• Manage material analysis programs and root-cause analysis of failures.
• Coordinate field trials and communicate implementation plans for new products.
