Job summary

Southern Company Gas is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead material quality management programs, evaluate materials and tooling performance, and write specifications for new materials used in the system. The role includes on-site inspections, supplier interaction, and reporting on material failures as technologies are evaluated for rollout.

Required BA/BS in engineering; EIT/PE preferred. Experience in gas utilities or pipeline-related fields is beneficial for project management and material

Qualifications

• BA/BS in recognized engineering discipline.
• Preferred: EIT or Professional Engineering License.
• 2+ years of engineering or operations experience in energy/gas industry (Engineer II) and 5+ years (Engineer III).

Responsibilities

• Evaluates new materials to verify characteristics and compliance with standards (ASTM/API/ANSI/49CFR192.7).
• Oversees statistical sampling of incoming materials against purchase-order requirements.
• Develops material specifications and manages material analysis programs and reporting of failures.
• Coordinates field trials and communicates introduction of new products/materials.
• Performs on-site manufacturing inspections to ensure vendor material compliance.
• Supports cost-benefit analysis of new technologies and project management.
