Job summary

Southern Company Gas is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead material quality programs, evaluate new materials and tooling, and oversee quality inspections across on-site manufacturing. You will write specifications, manage field trials, and report on material performance to support safe, efficient operations.

Ideal candidates hold a BA/BS in engineering, with 2+ years in materials testing or energy-related field; EIT or PE is a plus.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in recognized engineering discipline required.
• Preferred: EIT or Professional Engineering License.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates new materials to verify characteristics and compliance with ASTM/API/ANSI and Code requirements.
• Oversees statistical sampling of incoming materials and compares results to purchase order requirements.
• Develops material specifications for products approved for use in the system.
• Manages material analysis programs and conducts failure analyses; reports findings.
• Administers the Defective Item Program and conducts root-cause analysis of defective materials.
• Coordinates field trials of new products/materials and prepares communication plans for product introductions and changes.
• Responds to internal requests for material and system component support.
• Interacts with supplier technical staff and third-party labs for testing.
• Monitors technology utilization and assists in vendor/product selection and recalls as needed.
• Performs on-site manufacturing inspections to ensure vendor compliance with material specifications.
