Job summary

Emerson is seeking a motivated engineering co-op student in Marshalltown, IA to work on lab evaluations, documentation of results, and support for engineering change processes. You will engage with interdisciplinary teams and apply materials knowledge in a real-world setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lab evaluations including penetrant testing, welding monitoring, and material testing.
  • Document results and communicate findings to requestors.
  • Revise company standards.
  • Support Engineering Change Management and update web pages.

Job description

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:


  • The employee must work independently and efficiently in order to complete work as assigned, which may include some of the following tasks:


  • Lab evaluations: liquid penetrant testing, welding monitoring, use of tensile and compression testing apparatus, hardness/micro-hardness evaluation, corrosion testing, metallography, sectioning, coating thickness evaluation, compositional analysis

  • Document laboratory results and accurately convey results to requestors, accurately describing test procedures and/or failure analysis mechanisms

  • Revise company standards

  • Support Engineering Change Management work processes

  • Update web pages


For This Role, You Will Need:


  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering or closely related field

  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and good interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:


  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Materials Engineering, Polymers Engineering

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Junior or higher class standing

  • Successful completion of introductory materials engineering coursework and Materials Characterization course
