Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Co. in Pittsburgh, PA, is hiring a Materials Engineer to translate engineering requirements into test plans, analyses, and reports. Hybrid role with two days per week onsite in Churchill, PA. No sponsorship or relocation; local candidates only.

The candidate will work on advanced materials development, participate in lab testing programs, and collaborate with national labs, universities, and industry groups to advance nuclear materials technologies.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in materials engineering or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Materials Science or Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • Experience with zirconium-based alloys is ideal.
  • Orientation toward achieving Customer Success.
  • Technical writing ability.

Responsibilities

  • Verify work of other engineers on assignments ranging from basic to complex.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction and collaborate with national laboratories, universities, and industry groups.
  • Apply engineering thoughtfulness to problem resolution, including literature reviews.
  • Support development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Support hands‑on material testing programs in a lab environment, including mechanical, autoclave corrosion, and material/chemical characterization testing.
  • Interface with customers, national labs, and universities for collaborative development programs and external testing laboratories.
  • Participate in multi‑discipline teams to accomplish goals.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of test data.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution, or promote related business products.

About The Role

A Materials Engineer will apply materials science to develop materials for nuclear applications, translating engineering requirements into test plans, analyses, calculations, and reports. They will report to the Materials and Fuel Rod Design Manager. This hybrid role requires two days per week onsite in Churchill, PA. No sponsorship or relocation available; local candidates only.

Base salary range: $85,200 to $106,500 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills.
