Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Materials Engineer to apply materials science knowledge for nuclear applications, translate requirements into test plans, and prepare analyses and reports. This hybrid role is based in Churchill, PA, with two days per week onsite.

You will report to the Materials and Fuel Rod Design Manager and collaborate with national labs, universities, and industry groups to advance materials development and testing programs.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required, with preference toward Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience with zirconium-based alloys is ideal
  • Orientation towards achieving Customer Success
  • Technical writing ability

Responsibilities

  • Verify work of other engineers on assignments ranging from basic to complex.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to and collaborate with other entities such as national laboratories, universities, and industry groups.
  • Bring engineering thoughtfulness to resolution of problems, requiring prior knowledge and literature review within given discipline.
  • Support development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Support hands-on material testing programs in a test lab environment, including mechanical testing, autoclave corrosion testing, and materials/chemical characterization.
  • Interface with customers, national labs, and universities for collaborative development programs.
  • Participate in multi-discipline groups or teams to accomplish goals.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of test data results.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to communicate status or problem resolution.

About the role:

As a Materials Engineer, you will apply knowledge of materials science to develop materials for nuclear applications. You will translate engineering requirements into test plans, develop test plans, and prepare engineering analyses, calculations, and reports.

You will report to the Materials and Fuel Rod Design Manager.

This role is hybrid, two days per week onsite, located in Churchill, PA. No Sponsorship available. No relocation - local candidates only.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
