Job summary

Macmillan’s MPS division in Gordonsville, VA is seeking a Material Handler-Special Projects to perform advanced warehouse duties, operate equipment, and manage kit/display preparation per internal instructions.

Responsibilities include following work orders, packing and shipping, using WMS to track status, and ensuring accuracy of labels while meeting production goals. High school diploma required; pay range $17.28–$17.98 per hour with 11 holidays and 401(k) eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Follows work order instructions and updates management when completed.

• Operates shrink-wrap machine for packages and special jobs.
• Monitors shortages, labeling accuracy, and assembly issues.
• Packs books/components and ensures safe transit to storage or shipping.
• Uses WMS to look up locations and retrieve order status.

MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America.

Purpose of the Role:

In this position, the employee will perform the more advanced general warehouse duties to include making adjustments in the computer system; operating machinery; processing; shrink-wrapping product; operating stretch-wrapping machine, and performing short picker duties while meeting production requirements, following appropriate instructions and safety methods associated with the department they are assigned to.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures that all work order instructions are followed exactly and updates management when completed.
• Prepares and organizes all components of a kit/display prior to assembly.
• Operates shrink-wrap machine for college packs and special jobs.
• Keeps management advised of any shortages, assembly problems, and incorrect labels/markings.
• Ensures the correct quantity of books/components are packed.
• Packs books/components in cartons using various dunnage materials to eliminate damage in transit or while in storage.
• WMS – Looks up locations and retrieves order status information.

Skills/experience Required

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; write legibly and effectively communicate information one-on-one and to employees and management.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions, and to deal with standardized structure.

Pay Rate:

$17.2800 to $17.9800
