We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Core Drill Operator to join our team. The Core Drill Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining core drilling equipment to create openings for fire protection piping systems in walls and floors. This role is crucial for the efficient installation of fire protection systems and works closely with field personnel. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A Day in the Life – Core Drill Operator
- Perform core drilling operations on job sites to create openings for pipes through concrete walls and floors according to project requirements.
- Perform routine pre-operational checks and preventative maintenance on drilling equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment.
- Ensure the drilling site is kept clean, organized, and free of hazards before, during, and upon completion of work.
- Properly maintain and demonstrate care of all tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with site foreman, shop foreman, and other team members to coordinate drilling activities and report progress.
- Train junior personnel on drilling procedures and safety measures.
- Assist with other shop responsibilities such as pipe fabrication, material handling, and jobsite deliveries.
- Cleaning and organizing shop work environment.
- A company vehicle will be provided for all business-related travel to and from job sites and for other approved work-related purposes.
- The operator will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle and reporting any maintenance needs or issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Concrete cutting or core drilling experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record required.
- Relevant work experience in a warehouse/construction/contracting environment is preferred.
- Must be able to perform job responsibilities in an industrial, construction site, and general outdoor environment around heavy machinery and equipment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with ladders and scissor lifts preferred.
- Experience driving box/stake trucks, small trailers a plus.
- Self-starter: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, diagrams, and instructions.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in work.
- Problem-solving skills to address unexpected field conditions or equipment issues.
- Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions and potentially remote locations.
- Commitment to safety and ability to identify and mitigate risks.
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and record-keeping.
- High energy: the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Flexible and versatile to work outside your job’s scope; willing to learn.
- Good communication / Excellent customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
- The job requires heavy physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Involves working at heights using ladders and scissor lifts, and may involve working in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift/move 80 - 100 lbs. of materials/products frequently (50 – 75% of the time) during a shift.
- Frequent (50-75% of the time) standing, walking, reaching at or below shoulder level, and bending throughout a shift.
- Occasional (25 -50% of the time) climbing, twisting, and reaching overhead while working with materials and equipment.
Certificates/Licenses:
- High School Diploma
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required
- Forklift certification preferred
