Salary:$44,899.40 - $63,992.83
Position: Full-time
Hours: 35 Hrs./wk.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of the Dracut Sewer/Kenwood Water Department, the Laborer shall assist the Superintendent and Foreman with daily operational requirements of the Department.

Supervision:

Works under the direct supervision of the Water and Sewer Superintendent following rules, regulations, and policies to complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Assist with monitoring and inspecting work performed by contractors and make reports to supervisor, as required.
  • Daily monitoring of 18 sewer pump stations.
  • Assist with sewer back-ups and issues.
  • Secure loose manhole covers.
  • Preventative maintenance of sewer and water infrastructure.
  • Perform the installation, removal, and minor field repairs of water meters.
  • Maintenance, exercising, flushing and painting of fire hydrants.
  • Maintenance of pump stations and booster stations.
  • Dig Safe marking of sewer and water utilities
  • Perform landscaping tasks. Mow lawns, trim hedges, edge walkways and snow removal.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints regarding faulty service, leaks, and other water/sewer system operating difficulties.
  • Must be available to work overtime on an emergency basis if required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:

  • General knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma and specialized training courses
  • Knowledge of Water and Sewer System Maintenance
  • Minimum of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Experience with water meter reading, water meter installations, including meter removal and replacement with valve assemblies.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to keep extensive records and make reports.
  • Knowledge of the water and sewer systems within Town

  • Work is both inside and outside and may occur in poor weather conditions.

  • Must be available to respond to emergency situations.
