Job summary

Kershaw Equipment in Montgomery, AL is seeking a Material Handler for the first shift to support production by pulling documents, stocking, loading, and delivering to workstations. The role requires 1–2 years in material handling and forklift/Pallet jack experience, with a high school diploma or GED.

The position involves operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment, maintaining safety protocols, and communicating inventory status to supervision.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of material handling experience.
  • 1–2 years forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment, dollies, or crane experience.
  • High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, unload materials and store in inventory.
  • Familiarizes self with different work areas to assure prompt delivery and adequate supply of required items.
  • Identifies, draws from inventory, and transports material and parts to and from assembly areas, machines, loading docks and other areas.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document the processing of incoming and outgoing.
  • Operate industrial forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment and/or overhead cranes to perform material handling assignments.
  • Must be able to deliver urgent items to the production floor consistently, accurately, and safely;
  • Able to clearly communicate the tracking of incoming parts and relay this to management quickly, consistently, and accurately.
  • Follow verbal or written work instructions, standards and or QWI's consistently, accurately, and safely.
  • Ability to read, count and understand various inventory codes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train other employees on safe and efficient operation.
  • Inspect and complete reports related to safe operation and maintenance of material handling equipment.

Job description

A Material Handler supports production and/or specific areas of the facility by pulling document material, stocking, loading, and delivering to the proper workstation. The Material Handler must be capable of supporting all areas within the facility. This is a first shift position. Kershaw Equipment, located in Montgomery, AL, is a leader in rail maintenance and vegetation management production and a worldwide supplier of maintenance-of-way equipment. Experience

1-2 years of experience of Material Handling. 1-2 experience with Forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment, dollies and/or crane experience.

Education

High School Education, GED, or vocational/technical training.

Physical Activities Functions

Strength - Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, push and pull up to 75lb.

Motion - Constant walking Frequent and sustained bending, crouching, stopping, kneeing, squatting and overhead reaching and climbing ladders.

Vision/Hearing Requirements - Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and hear audible alarms.

Work Environment

Works on varied surfaces, concrete floors, gravel, rail car and locomotive floors. Works at varied heights from floor level to tops of locomotives. Work in confined spaces. Non-temperate control environment, all weather conditions with high noise and high dust levels.

Safety - Safety Sensitive positions because it works in and around active tracks, rail cars, locomotives, and other moving equipment. Must abide by all safety protocols, health/medical screenings and utilize all required PPE. Included but not limited to metatarsal boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, aprons, ear protection, etc.
