Job summary

Kershaw Equipment LLC in Montgomery, AL is seeking a Material Handler to unload and store materials, and move items to production areas. The role requires OSHA safety awareness and the ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks to support daily operations.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of material handling experience, basic reading of inventory codes, and the stamina to lift up to 50 lbs. This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in material handling.
  • Experience with forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment, dollies and/or crane.
  • High School Education, GED, or vocational/technical training.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environments.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, and unload materials/parts and store in inventory.
  • Identify, draw from inventory, and transport items to assembly areas and loading docks.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment and/or overhead cranes to perform material handling.
  • Communicate processing of incoming and outgoing items clearly and accurately.
  • Follow work instructions and safety protocols consistently and safely.
  • Read, count and understand inventory codes.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, identify, and unload materials/parts and store in inventory.
  • Familiarizes self with different work areas to assure prompt delivery and adequate supply of required items.
  • Identifies, draws from inventory, and transports material and parts to and from assembly areas, machines, loading docks and other areas.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document the processing of incoming and outgoing.
  • Operate industrial forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment and/or overhead cranes to perform material handling assignments.
  • Must be able to deliver urgent items to the production floor consistently, accurately, and safely;
  • Able to clearly communicate the tracking of incoming parts and relay this to management quickly, consistently, and accurately.
  • Follow verbal or written work instructions, standards and or QWI’s consistently, accurately, and safely.
  • Ability to read, count and understand various inventory codes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train other employees on safe and efficient operation.
  • Inspect and complete reports related to safe operation and maintenance of material handling equipment.
Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience of Material Handling.
  • 1-2 experience with Forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment, dollies and/or crane experience.
Education

High School Education, GED, or vocational/technical training.

Physical Activities Functions
  • Strength – Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, push and pull up to 75lb.
  • Motion – Constant walking Frequent and sustained bending, crouching, stopping, kneeing, squatting and overhead reaching and climbing ladders.
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and hear audible alarms.
  • Works on varied surfaces, concrete floors, gravel, rail car and locomotive floors.
  • Works at varied heights from floor level to tops of locomotives.
  • Work in confined spaces. Nontemperate control environment, all weather conditions with high noise and high dust levels.
  • Safety – Safety Sensitive positions because it works in and around active tracks, rail cars, locomotives, and other moving equipment. Must abide by all safety protocols, health/medical screenings and utilize all required PPE. Included but not limited to metatarsal boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, aprons, ear protection, etc.
