Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Material Handler I for our Storage Control team in New York. You will handle receiving, sorting, counting, and packing items and operate material handling equipment daily.

This on-site role requires a high school diploma with no formal experience; preferred candidates have distribution or warehouse exposure and can work in cold room and freezer environments while adhering to safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• No prior work experience required; distribution/warehouse experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly; up to 45 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, examine, sort, count, store, pick and pack items per procedures.
• Prepare and file routine documentation and maintain quality metrics.
• Operate material handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack.
• Work in a ±4°C walk-in cold room and -20°C freezer environment.

Location/Division Specific Information:

This is a Material Handler I role in Storage Control department with the work shift of Monday-Friday, 06:30am.-03:00pm.

A Day in the Life:

• Receiving, examining, sorting, arranging, counting, storing, picking, and packing items for storage and/or shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.

• Preparing and filing routine documentation.

• Maintaining quality metrics.

• Operating material handling equipment (e.g. hand truck, pallet jack, Forklift etc).

• Working in and out of a +4c walk-in Cold Room and -20c walk-in Freezer.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• No previous work experience required

• Preferred: Experience in distribution, warehouse or supply chain or related field

• Preferred: Experience with powered industrial trucks (order pickers)

• Ability to analyze and solve problems independently as well as collaboratively.

• Self-motivated, self-starter with strong organizational skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, successful in partnering with colleagues of differing cultural, language and educational backgrounds.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Close vision and ability to adjust focus required.

• Regularly required to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to lift weight of 45 pounds or more, with assistance and/or with equipment on occasion.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $12.56–$20.94.
