Job summary

BlueLinx Holdings Inc. is seeking a Material Handler/Forklift Operator to join our distribution center in a team-focused environment in Grand Rapids, MI.

This role involves operating a forklift, loading/unloading materials, and preparing shipping paperwork. The position requires safety-conscious workers with forklift experience, the ability to lift up to 75 lbs, and the capability to follow directions while working both independently and within a team.

Qualifications

• One year or recent forklift/warehouse experience.
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to read and comprehend sales orders, purchase orders and safety material.
• Safe work record and stable work history.
• Able to work independently at times and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift in accordance with training and safety guidelines.
• Load, unload, and store building materials from trailers or rail cars while minimizing damage.
• Store and retrieve material (piece pick and/or bulk).
• Prepare paperwork for distribution and shipping of products.
• Perform daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in working and assigned area.
• Assist in periodic inventory counts as requested.

What You’ll Do:

• Operate forklift in compliance with forklift training and safety guidelines.
• Load/unload/store building materials from trailers or rail cars while minimizing damage.
• Store and retrieve material (piece pick and/or bulk)
• Prepare the paperwork required for distribution and shipping of products.
• Performs daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in working and assigned area.
• Assists in periodic inventory counts as requested.

What We’re Looking For:

• Ability to proficiently and safely use forklift to transport products, load/unload trucks
• Ability to understand and follow directions
• Ability to work independently at times under pressure
• Ability to handle physical tasks, such as lifting up to 75 lbs.

The fixed rate per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and other job-related considerations.
