Job summary

Central Plains Steel in Wichita, KS is hiring for a full-time material handler on the 1st shift (6:30am – 3:00pm), located at Plant 1. The role involves loading/unloading, pulling and assembling orders, and performing quality checks in a fast-paced steel environment.

Ideal candidates should have 0–5 years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, basic math skills, and the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.

Qualifications

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds repetitively
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Basic measurement and math skills
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions
• Ability to operate material handling equipment
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Responsibilities

• Pulls and assembles orders based on reviewing work/shipping orders or other documentation.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Performs quality control inspections.
• Sorts and packages parts as directed.
• Tags material for proper identification and complete all required documentation.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Operates yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane for loading/unloading trailers.
• Spot checks on inventory and tagging of material as directed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
