Job summary

Central Plains Steel is hiring for a full-time Material Handler at Plant 2 in Wichita, KS. Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm, location Plant 2 - 8909 E. 35th St. N, Suite 300, Wichita, KS 67226. Competitive pay and full benefits provided.

You will review work orders, operate forklifts and other material handling equipment, perform quality checks, organize storage, and maintain a clean, safe work area while following company policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Basic measurement skills and Math for calculations.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lb and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow work orders and instructions.
• Operate material handling equipment including forklift and crane.
• Perform quality checks and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Move, store, and package parts per directions.

Function in the Job

Job Function

• Generally responsible for completing basic, routine tasks with detailed instructions and/or core knowledge of shop flow.
• Review and follow work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Performs quality control inspections.
• Removes scrap metal and clean equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Moves material from production areas to storage or other designated areas using forklift or crane.
• Sorts and packages parts as directed.
• Tag material for proper identification and completes all required documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
• Operates yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane.
• Spot checks on inventory, completes daily and/or ad hoc checks for proper tagging of material, as directed.
• Report any irregularities to supervisor for direction.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills

• Valid Driver’s License - required.
• Must be able to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
• Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination - required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations - required.
• Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly - required.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions - required.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively - required.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment - required.
• Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds repetitively - required.
• Ability to stand for sustained periods of time - required.
• Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force - required.
• Employees are subject to temperatures more than 100 degrees F and below 32 degrees F
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers and/or vendors - required.
• Must be able to obtain a certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment - required.
• Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications - required.
• Warehousing and material handling experience – preferred.
• High School diploma/GED - preferred.
