Job summary

Merrill Steel in Springfield, MO is seeking a Material Handler for 1st or 2nd shift to support production operations. The role involves operating forklifts, trailer loading equipment, overhead cranes, grinding and other equipment to lift and move raw materials or finished products.

You will work approximately 45–55 hours per week, maintaining safety while locating materials by size and heat number, determining load weights, and ensuring loads are within lifting capacities.

Qualifications

• Material Handling experience preferred.
• Follows all safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts, trailer loading equipment, overhead cranes, grinding and various other equipment to lift and move raw materials or finished products.
• Ability to work approximately 45 to 55 hours per week.
• Able to locate material by size and heat number.
• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Operate cranes, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, and placing loads.
• Uses proper selection of chains, straps to match the load to be lifted.
• Inspect cables and grappling devices for wear, before using.
• Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions and damage.
• Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking and outrigging under cranes.
• Load and unload steel from conveyors and machinery to appropriate areas, using moving equipment.
• Review daily work and delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, and special loading instructions.
• Assists in housekeeping in the work area
