Kelly Services in Hillsboro, OR is seeking a Material Specialist to manage receiving, storage, and movement of materials to support production. You will ensure accuracy, traceability, and timely delivery of components throughout the warehouse and production areas.
The role emphasizes inventory control, cycle counting, and scanning using MRP/ERP systems, with forklift operation and strict safety practices as core requirements. You will contribute to continuous improvement of material flow.
Material Specialist
Location: Hillsboro OR, 97124
Pay: $19 - $20 DOE
Shift: M-F 8am - 5pm
The Material Specialist supports Production Operations and Materials Management by receiving, storing, moving, and controlling inventory throughout the production and warehouse environments. This role is responsible for ensuring materials are accurately received, tracked, stored, and delivered to support production requirements while maintaining inventory accuracy and material traceability.
Duties include receiving and allocating materials, picking and kitting components for production, performing inventory transactions, cycle counting, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The Material Specialist also supports continuous improvement initiatives and helps ensure efficient material flow throughout the facility.
Receive, verify, and process incoming materials and documentation.
Perform material movements including picking, kitting, transfers, replenishments, and replacements to support production requirements.
Execute inventory transactions in MRP and database systems to maintain accurate inventory records and material traceability.
Perform cycle counts and inventory audits to ensure system and physical inventory accuracy.
Maintain floor stock and production inventory levels.
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve inventory discrepancies.
Support inventory management processes and best practices, including cycle counting and Kanban systems.
Create kits and stage materials for production activities.
Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport materials throughout the facility.
Appropriately dispose of, recycle, and manage excess or obsolete materials in accordance with established procedures.
Assist with developing, documenting, and improving material management processes.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
Experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, materials management, or related roles.
Preferred minimum of two (2) years of experience in a materials, inventory, or warehouse-related position.
Working knowledge of inventory management principles, including receiving, picking, kitting, cycle counting, inventory control, and material handling processes.
Experience using MRP, ERP, or other inventory management systems.
Forklift certification required or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to analyze inventory data and generate reports.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
Ability to move materials throughout warehouse, storage, and production environments.
Ability to perform inventory counts and material handling activities with a high degree of accuracy.
