Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Material Handler to support production and shipping. You will operate forklifts, move materials, inspect loads, and ensure safe handling while maintaining accurate paperwork.

Day and night shifts are offered. Starting pay is $20.64 per hour with a 60-day raise to $22.50/hr plus a $0.40 shift differential on the 3rd shift. Day-one benefits and comprehensive health coverage are provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school education or equivalent. (College a plus).
  • 3-5 years material handling experience with powered forklift preferred.
  • Ability to lift, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, bend and kneel during shift.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety procedures and promote safety programs.
  • Support converting equipment to ensure steady supply of materials, WIP and packing supplies.
  • Remove completed product from equipment and transfer to storage areas.
  • Inspect product to ensure tags and identifiers are correct.
  • Transport product to staging area and ensure accurate paperwork.

Job description

Job: Material Handler

Shift:

  • Days: Monday - Thursday, 6 am - 4 pm EST. Overtime: Friday as needed
  • Nights: Sunday Night - Wednesday Night, 8 pm - 6 am. Overtime - Thursday Night as needed.

Pay: $20.64 an hour, 1st pay increase after 60 days will bump up to $22.50/hr (plus shift differential - 3rd Shift: $0.40/ hr)

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

  • Follow all safety procedures and promote safety & safety programs throughout the facility.
  • Support all converting equipment to ensure accurate, steady supply of materials, WIP and packing supplies.
  • Remove completed wrapped and tagged product from all converting equipment and transfer to designated storage stretch wrap and or banding areas.
  • Inspect product to ensure tags are in place and accurately identify the material.
  • Transport product to the staging area.
  • Read, interpret, and understand all job Jackets, Spec Sheets, skid tags and product load tags.
  • Minimize product damage through safe and careful handling.
  • Ensure all paperwork and system transactions are completed timely and accurately.
  • Maintain housekeeping excellence in accordance with SQF/GMP Housekeeping standards.
  • Perform daily forklift inspections for each lift used.
  • Participate in monthly physical inventories.
  • Band and transport all skidded and roll scrap to scrap staging area.
  • Assist all production and shipping personnel as needed.
  • Ability to work safely, comply with all safety rules, lift, push or pull up to 100lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.

What you need to succeed:

  • Desired candidate will possess a minimum of a high school education or equivalent. (College a plus)
  • Preferred 3-5 years of material handling with a powered forklift and experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift, push and/or pull up to 50lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
  • Must be self-starting/self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to covert basic math, fractions to decimal, square foot, etc.
  • Effective communication skills and excellent coordination skills.
  • Great organizational and time management abilities.
  • Basic computer knowledge. Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, drug test, and criminal background check.

The starting rate is $20.64 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 10 days of paid vacation, and 10 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
